If you are considering joining Hook Dental as a new patient, we sincerely look forward to meeting you and your family.
Our new patient appointments are unhurried, as we like to allow plenty of time - around 40 minutes - to get to know you, give your mouth a thorough examination and understand how we can help you achieve better dental health.
Sometimes all we will do at your first appointment is talk. This is especially helpful for nervous patients who want to have a look around, find out more about our approach and get a feel for our practice without the worry of having an examination – or even sitting in the dental chair if you don’t want to.
Call us now on 01256 762 353.
Our new patient examination always includes a check of your teeth and fillings, a gum health assessment, a soft tissue examination (the tongue, cheeks and palate) and an oral cancer screening to detect any early signs of the disease.
We will check your bite and make a note of any worn teeth, recording any grinding or tooth clenching habits. As part of your examination, we may take x-rays and photographs to help us make a diagnosis. There is an extra charge for these diagnostic services, which we will always advise you of first.
Please complete and bring the medical history contained in your welcome pack with you to your first appointment or arrive 10 minutes early to complete it here.
New patients may also have a short follow-up appointment if necessary to discuss the results of any x-rays taken or to further discuss treatment options. There is no charge for this appointment.
Our normal surgery hours are 8.30am until 6.00pm. For patients who find it difficult to attend during normal surgery hours, we are open on Tuesdays until 7pm and on Saturdays from 9am until 12.30pm.
Putting our patients at ease
We find that nervous patients usually only need time and an explanation of what to expect to help them feel more at ease at their appointment. We have all the time in the world to make sure our nervous patients feel reassured and comfortable with their treatment.
Being frightened of the dentist can mean that you avoid your essential dental health examinations, only booking an appointment when you are in pain or have a dental emergency. We understand this and won’t judge you. There isn’t anything that will shock or surprise us and we will do all we can to help put nervous patients at ease, so that eventually you may even look forward to your appointments. It is possible!
Established, family team
Our lovely team members have been here for years – and all of our dentists and nurses are very experienced in their roles. This means you are assured of a friendly, familiar face at every visit.
Our appointments are never rushed and any treatment is taken at a speed you are comfortable with.
Regular Visits Are Vital
Once your initial treatment is complete, we encourage you to come back to see us at regular intervals to make sure everything is going well.
We tailor recall visits according to your specific needs and these may be between 3 and 12 months. These appointments can be pre-booked to ensure that you are seen at the right time and we also operate a recall system to remind you when your next visit is due.
To encourage regular visits we may recommend our membership scheme, designed to spread the cost of your regular care and ensure you receive the attention you need at the right time.
